George Müller (September 27, 1805 - March 10, 1898) was a Christian evangelist and the director of the Ashley Down Orphanage in Bristol, England. He was one of the founders of the Plymouth Free Brethren movement. During his lifetime he cared for 10,024 orphans, and was able to provide educational opportunities for these orphans to the point that his critics said he raised their social status above his social class in England. He established 117 schools that offered Christian education to more than 120,000 children. The work among the orphans of Müller and his wife began in 1836 with the preparation of their own house, 6 Wilson Street, which they rented, and room for 30 girls. By May 26, 1870, 1,722 children were being housed in 5 homes, although there was room for 2,050. Despite all this, Müller never solicited financial support, nor did he go into debt. Many times, he received unsolicited food donations only hours before they were needed to feed the children, further strengthening his faith in God.
